Coinbase - Your Way Out
I loved this one from Coinbase. It’s built on a really clear idea: what if you’re stuck inside a system you didn’t choose, and the only move is to break out?
This is brought to life beautifully as a restricted video game world (ironically, shot in real life rather than made digitally - see the BTS here!)
Clunky NPC behaviour and uncanny early-2000s video game textures make for a trip down memory lane that made the whole thing feel instantly relatable!
The story follows an everyday worker, going through the motions until he pushes against the edges, and breaks free from the whole system.
The parallels with modern transaction technology and the product Coinbase offers don’t even need to be spelt out.
Of course, the quality of the idea is only added to by the execution. The low-res texture costumes and the SIM-style marker overhead all reinforce the idea.
And all tied together by the lyrics of Sammy Davis Jr, ‘I’ve gotta be free, I just gotta be free.’
Ramp - The Contractor
This one from Ramp takes a completely different approach, but again, it’s the core idea that does the heavy lifting.
It zeroes in on a very specific pain point for contractors in the US: the whole 1099 process and the admin that comes with it.
Ramp positions BillPay as the fix for that, but instead of explaining it directly, they wrap it in a parody of an action movie trailer.
You’ve got the classic setup. Someone who’s been out of the game for a while gets pulled back in for one last job. There’s tension, there’s mystery, all played completely straight.
Then the reveal lands. He’s a graphic designer, and the thing he’s avoiding isn’t danger, it’s paperwork and tax admin. That contrast does most of the comedic work.
The script is doing a lot here. Lines like “You’re telling me this is some AI finance platform that can identify 1099 eligible vendors, and then generate, file and deliver all their tax forms in one place” lean into the absurdity.
The tone is carried by the soundtrack as well. It leans into that suspenseful action feel, which makes the contrast even stronger.
What I like most is how simple it is from a production point of view. No flashy edits or heavy graphics, just a solid script and a clear idea. It proves you don’t need a big production to make something that works.
Ripple - It’s Happening
I mainly loved this one for the copy. It shows how far you can push a simple idea when the writing is strong.
The whole piece is built around one repeated line: “It’s happening.” It comes back again and again, each time pointing to change in a different part of finance.
That repetition does most of the work. It creates rhythm, builds momentum, and keeps everything cohesive without needing a complex structure.
It all leads into the closing line: ‘If change is happening in finance, then it’s happening everywhere. And it’s happening with Ripple.’
The visuals support it nicely. The opening cycles through different media formats, which helps sell the idea that this is unfolding across time and channels. Small touches like the shifting eyes on banknotes add to that sense of evolution.
What stood out for me is how much they cover in a short space of time, without it feeling messy. The copy holds it all together.
A good reminder that sometimes one strong line is enough to carry the whole piece.
Wrap up
That’s a wrap! Hopefully, this has sparked some creative ideas.
